1. Matthias Church

Built in the 13th and recreated in the 19th century, the Mattthias Church is a beautiful neo-Gothic church with tiled roof, and beautifully painted interior.

2. Fishermen's Bastion (Halászbástya)

Situated right next to Matthias Church, this Bastion was built a century ago to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the Magyars' arrival in Europe. The seven towers stand for the 7 tribes that came from the east.

3. Synagogue (Jewish Museum)

The worlds second largest synagogue in the heart of the city. The museum has a collection of ritual objects, and pictures of the Hungarian Holocaust.

4. Heroes Square (Hősök Tere)

This square was built in 1896 for the Millennium celebrations. You can see the archangel Gabriel, with colonnades bearing statues of historical Hungarian leaders.

5. St. Stephens Basilica

Built between 1851 and 1905, the dome of the Basilica is exactly the same height as the Parliament's (96 meters) to mark the conquest in 896. St. Stephens holy right hand rests in a side chapel.
